Cable Installer at JD Electric

JD Electric, based in Rochester, NY, is seeking a skilled Data Center Cable Installation Technician to join our team. This position is crucial for supporting mission-critical facilities in the Rochester area, as well as neighboring cities like Irondequoit, Greece, and Brighton. The successful candidate will bring expertise in structured cabling, fiber optics, and cooling separation to ensure the integrity and performance of our clients’ data centers.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and install structured cabling systems for data centers and enterprise networks.
• Perform high-density fiber optic cable installations and certify cabling systems using advanced test equipment.
• Implement proper cable management in network rooms and terminate high-speed copper and fiber connections.
• Maintain detailed testing documentation and warranties.
• Coordinate pathway installation with other trades and perform data center hot aisle/cold aisle separation.
• Install overhead cable tray and ladder rack systems.
• Maintain clean room protocols for sensitive environments.
• Conduct assessments specific to climate control challenges in Rochester data centers.
• Ensure compliance with New York State building codes and regulations.
• Collaborate with local utility providers for efficient project execution.

Required Qualifications

• BICSI Installer 1 certification required; Installer 2 preferred.
• Demonstrated experience with fiber optic installation and testing.
• Proficiency with multiple certification testers and understanding of data center design principles.
• 1-5 years of experience required for Voice Data work in a commercial setting.
• Ability to read and create cable installation drawings.
• Understanding of network hardware requirements and cable management systems.
• Familiarity with Rochester’s local infrastructure and telecommunications standards.
• Experience with environmental regulations and standards specific to New York State.
