The Journeyman Electrician Position
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
As a Journeyman Electrician at IES Electric, your day-to-day tasks will involve a mix of installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities. You will be responsible for installing high-voltage DC and AC systems, ensuring compliance with the latest codes and safety standards. Your role will also involve conducting system testing and commissioning for solar arrays to ensure they achieve optimal energy output.

Core Journeyman Electrician Responsibilities
- Renewable Energy Systems: Install, maintain, and troubleshoot commercial renewable energy systems, including solar panels, energy storage systems, and inverters.
- Conduit and Wiring Installation: Route and install conduit (EMT, rigid) and wiring for high-voltage DC and AC systems, ensuring precision and compliance with NEC standards.
- System Testing and Commissioning: Perform comprehensive testing and commissioning for solar arrays, ensuring optimal energy output and adherence to local regulations.
- Collaboration and Design: Work closely with engineers and project managers to design and implement energy-efficient electrical solutions tailored to project specifications.
- Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS): Install and maintain BESS, integrating them seamlessly with existing building power systems.
- Preventive Maintenance: Conduct routine preventive maintenance on renewable energy equipment, including replacing faulty components and ensuring proper grounding.
- Supervision and Safety: Supervise apprentices, enforcing strict adherence to safety protocols and proper installation techniques.
- Advanced Technical Duties: Engage in advanced troubleshooting using the latest diagnostic tools, design and implement custom control systems for renewable projects, and participate in the development of new energy solutions tailored to regional needs.
- Safety Protocols: Adhere to rigorous safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment and compliance with OSHA regulations.
Required Experience & Skills
- Certification: Must possess a valid California Journeyman Certification from the Department of Industrial Relations.
- Knowledge Base: Extensive knowledge of NEC and renewable energy codes, including specific regulations for solar and battery storage systems.
- Experience: Minimum of 4+ years as a Journeyman Electrician, with a focus on solar panel installations, inverters, and high-voltage DC systems.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with multimeters, megohmmeters, and other diagnostic tools is essential.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, electrical schematics, and energy system diagrams.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail are crucial for troubleshooting and optimizing system performance.
