The Data Center Technician Position

A Dynamic Role with Endless Opportunities

As a Data Center Technician at IES Electric, you will engage in a variety of tasks that are crucial to the operation and maintenance of state-of-the-art data centers. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include the installation and maintenance of server racks, high-density cabling, and power distribution units. You will work on projects ranging from new data center build-outs to upgrading existing infrastructures, often in challenging and fast-paced environments.

Core Data Center Technician Responsibilities

Precision in Installation and Maintenance

  • Install server racks and cabinets, ensuring proper alignment and anchoring to maintain structural integrity.
  • Route and secure high-density cabling within racks, overhead trays, and under-floor systems to optimize space and efficiency.
  • Mount and connect power distribution units (PDUs), managing cable pathways for a clean, organized setup.
  • Perform basic cable testing and labeling to uphold data center documentation accuracy.

Advanced Technical Duties

  • Conduct advanced network troubleshooting and diagnostics using sophisticated tools.
  • Implement and manage complex cooling systems to maintain optimal data center temperatures.
  • Perform routine maintenance and upgrades on power systems to ensure uninterrupted service.

Regional Project Specifics and Safety Protocols

  • Engage in projects across the Treasure Coast region, adapting to specific client needs and regional regulations.
  • Adhere to strict safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and participation in regular safety training sessions.

Required Experience & Skills

Expertise and Proficiency

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Data Center Technician in a similar environment.
  • Essential certifications include CompTIA Server+, BICSI Technician, and OSHA Safety Certification.
  • Proficient in using cable testers, understanding network configurations, and following precise documentation protocols.

Tools & Equipment

Daily Tools and Company-Provided Equipment

  • Utilize essential tools such as cable testers, crimpers, and power drills.
  • Required personal tools include screwdrivers, pliers, and a multi-meter.
  • IES Electric provides specialized equipment like network analyzers and thermal cameras.

Physical Requirements

Demands of the Role

  • Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds regularly and standing for extended periods.
  • Work in various conditions, including confined spaces and elevated areas.
  • Safety gear such as hard hats, gloves, and safety glasses are required at all times.
