What You’ll Do as an Electrician

Your Daily Tasks as an Electrician

As an Electrician at Howell Electric, your day will start with a team meeting to discuss the day’s objectives and safety protocols. Your primary responsibilities will include installing and maintaining commercial electrical systems, which involves bending and installing EMT and rigid conduit. You’ll use your expertise to troubleshoot electrical circuits using multimeters, ensuring all systems function correctly and efficiently.

On any given day, you might find yourself wiring and testing lighting controls, or replacing and upgrading switchgear to enhance building performance. You’ll also be responsible for installing transformers, ensuring they meet our rigorous safety and performance standards. In addition to these technical tasks, you’ll oversee apprentices on job sites, sharing your knowledge and ensuring they adhere to best practices. Other common tasks include conducting routine maintenance checks and responding to emergency repair requests to minimize downtime for our clients.

What You Need to Be an Electrician

To excel in this role, you need proficiency with conduit benders and power tools, along with in-depth knowledge of NEC codes. The ability to work on lifts and scaffolding is essential, as many of our projects require this expertise. Strong troubleshooting skills are a must, as is experience with lighting control systems.

Leadership capabilities are also crucial, as you’ll be mentoring apprentices, guiding them through complex tasks while ensuring their safety and effectiveness. Ideally, you should have 3-5 years of experience in the field as an Electrician, demonstrating a strong track record of reliability and skill. Key skills include problem-solving, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
