Direct Connect is seeking a skilled Fiber Optic Technician to join our dedicated team in Bloomington, MN. As a Fiber Optic Network Specialist, you will play a crucial role in the design, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise fiber systems across Bloomington and its neighboring cities including Richfield, Edina, and St. Louis Park. You will be responsible for ensuring robust and efficient fiber optic networks, supporting our mission to deliver top-tier connectivity solutions. The position requires a deep understanding of fiber infrastructure, including single-mode, multi-mode, and DWDM systems. You will be working on exciting projects, such as the upcoming Bloomington Tech Hub expansion, which aims to enhance digital infrastructure across the region.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement complex fiber optic networks tailored to enterprise needs.
• Perform high-precision fusion splicing operations ensuring minimal signal loss.
• Test and certify fiber installations using advanced OTDR testing methodologies.
• Maintain comprehensive splice documentation for all network projects.
• Install and maintain fiber distribution systems and configure DWDM systems.
• Conduct thorough OTDR testing to identify and address any network issues.
• Implement and manage efficient fiber management systems.
• Coordinate pathway installations to optimize network performance.
• Ensure a clean and organized work environment to promote safety and efficiency.
• Execute emergency restoration procedures to quickly resolve network outages.
• Train and mentor junior technicians, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
• Perform site surveys specific to the Bloomington area to assess project feasibility.
• Adhere to Minnesota-specific regulatory standards for fiber optic installations.
• Collaborate on the Bloomington Tech Hub expansion project, contributing to the development of cutting-edge fiber infrastructure.

Required Qualifications

• FOA certification is mandatory, demonstrating foundational fiber optic expertise.
• Extensive experience in fusion splicing with a proven track record.
• Expertise in OTDR testing with the ability to interpret complex data.
• Demonstrated ability to design and manage fiber management systems.
• Advanced knowledge of various fiber types and their applications.
• Certification in multiple splice platforms, showcasing versatility and expertise.
• Strong troubleshooting skills, capable of resolving intricate network issues.
• Experience with documentation systems to maintain accurate project records.
• Proven experience in emergency response to efficiently manage network crises.
• 2-5 years of experience in fiber work within a commercial setting.
• Familiarity with Bloomington’s infrastructure and local network demands.
• Ability to navigate and work within the regulatory framework of Minnesota.
