The Apprentice Electrician Position

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

As an Apprentice Electrician at Blink Charging, you will engage in a range of tasks essential to the installation and maintenance of EV charging stations. Your day-to-day responsibilities include assisting skilled journeymen and foremen, pulling electrical wiring, and helping with the installation of critical components such as service panels and transformers.

You will work in diverse environments, from residential properties in Coto de Caza to commercial sites in nearby cities like Lake Forest and Laguna Hills. Each project will offer unique challenges and learning opportunities, contributing to your professional development.

Core Apprentice Electrician Responsibilities

  • Installation and Maintenance: Assist in the installation and maintenance of EV charging stations, ensuring compliance with NEC and California Electric Code standards.
  • Wiring and Conduit Work: Pull and secure electrical wiring through various conduits and assist in conduit bending and installation.
  • Equipment Installation: Support the installation of service panels, transformers, and EV charging equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and Testing: Perform basic troubleshooting and system testing, under supervision, to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Advanced Technical Duties: Learn advanced techniques for wire terminations, conduit layout, and electrical system components. Engage in regional-specific projects like high-capacity charging installations.
  • Safety Protocols: Attend daily safety meetings, adhere to safety protocols, and report any concerns to supervisors.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Experience: 0-2 years minimum as an Apprentice Electrician.
  • Essential Certifications: Valid Electrical Trainee card from the California Department of Industrial Relations (DIR).
  • Technical Knowledge: Basic understanding of electrical systems, tools, and equipment. Familiarity with NEC and California Electric Code is beneficial.
  • Additional Skills: Strong willingness to learn, reliable transportation, OSHA 10-hour certification, and First Aid/CPR preferred.

Tools & Equipment

  • Daily Tools: Apprentice Electricians use multimeters, wire strippers, and conduit benders regularly.
  • Personal Tools: You are expected to have basic hand tools, including screwdrivers and pliers.
  • Company-Provided Equipment: Blink Charging provides specialized tools and safety gear for specific tasks.

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Working Conditions: Work on ladders, in confined spaces, and outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Safety Gear: Hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots are mandatory.
