The Apprentice Electrician Position

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

As an Apprentice Electrician at Bidram Electric, you’ll engage in diverse electrical tasks, working hand-in-hand with journeymen and foremen. Your daily duties will include assisting with electrical installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting, specifically focusing on EV charging station projects. You’ll gain hands-on experience in wiring, conduit bending, and system testing, ensuring that all work adheres to NEC and California Electric Code standards.

Core Apprentice Electrician Responsibilities

Key Duties

• Assist journeymen and foremen in installing and maintaining EV charging stations.
• Pull and secure electrical wiring through conduits, trenches, and walls, ensuring accurate labeling.
• Assist in conduit bending (EMT, rigid) and installation under supervision.
• Help with the installation of service panels, transformers, and EV charging equipment.
• Perform basic troubleshooting tasks and system testing under the guidance of licensed electricians.

Advanced Technical Duties

• Participate in the calibration and testing of EV charging equipment to ensure optimal performance.
• Assist in the design and layout of electrical conduits and systems for new projects.
• Support the implementation of advanced energy management systems.

Regional Project Specifics

Part of your role will include working on projects across Whittier and surrounding cities like La Mirada and Norwalk, contributing to our regional expansion efforts in sustainable energy infrastructure.

Safety Protocols

Attend daily safety meetings and adhere to all workplace safety protocols, ensuring a secure working environment. Learn and implement proper techniques for wire terminations, conduit layout, and electrical system components.

Required Experience & Skills

• Valid Electrical Trainee card from the California Department of Industrial Relations (DIR).
• Basic understanding of electrical systems, tools, and equipment.
• Familiarity with NEC and California Electric Code is a plus.
• Strong willingness to learn and develop skills under the supervision of experienced electricians.
• Reliable transportation to job sites and ability to work across multiple locations.
• OSHA 10-hour certification and First Aid/CPR preferred.
• Physical stamina to perform manual labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds and working on ladders or in confined spaces.

Tools & Equipment

• Daily use of tools such as multimeters, wire strippers, and conduit benders.
• Apprentices are expected to have a personal toolkit including pliers, screwdrivers, and measuring tape.
• Company-provided equipment includes safety gear and specialized tools necessary for specific projects.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Work conditions may include confined spaces and elevated platforms.
• Safety gear such as hard hats, gloves, and safety glasses are required at all job sites.
