What You’ll Do as a Data Center Technician

As a Data Center Technician at Berks Electrical, you’ll be an essential part of our team, working on exciting multi-year projects in Coral Springs, FL, and extending into neighboring cities such as Tamarac, Margate, Parkland, and Coconut Creek. This position offers a hands-on role where you’ll be directly involved in the installation and maintenance of critical data infrastructure. Your work ensures the seamless operation of data centers that power businesses and services in the region.

Your Daily Tasks as a Data Center Technician

Installation and Setup

Your main responsibility will be installing server racks, cabinets, and power distribution units (PDUs) in our large-scale data centers. This involves ensuring precise alignment and anchoring to guarantee stability and efficiency. You’ll also route, secure, and label high-density cabling within overhead trays, underfloor systems, and racks, ensuring a meticulously organized setup.

Testing and Troubleshooting

A significant part of your day will involve performing cable testing and troubleshooting using advanced diagnostic tools. You’ll need to quickly identify and resolve any issues to maintain the integrity of our systems.

Collaboration and Coordination

You’ll work closely with project managers, engineers, and other trades to meet strict installation schedules and technical requirements. This coordination is critical to ensuring all projects are completed on time and to the highest standards.

Safety and Documentation

Maintaining adherence to cleanliness, safety, and operational standards in sensitive data center environments is crucial. You’ll manage materials and inventory to support ongoing projects and provide detailed documentation of completed work. Keeping accurate records is essential for both operational clarity and ongoing maintenance.

Additional Daily Activities

In addition to the core tasks, you’ll often be involved in:

  • Conducting routine inspections to ensure all systems are functioning optimally.
  • Assisting in the design and implementation of network infrastructure improvements.
  • Providing technical support and guidance to junior technicians and other team members.

What You Need to Be a Data Center Technician

Experience and Expertise

To succeed in this role, you should have at least 3-5 years of experience working in data center environments. A deep understanding of power and cooling systems is essential, as is proficiency in cable management and testing tools. You should also be knowledgeable about network configurations and possess strong documentation skills.
