We are seeking Apprentice Electricians to join our commercial team in San Fernando, CA. This is an exciting opportunity for motivated individuals looking to grow their skills in the electrical trade while working on high-profile big-box retail projects.
Position Overview:
As an Apprentice Electrician, you will work under the supervision of experienced Journeyman Electricians and Foremen to assist with the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems in commercial properties. This role is focused on big-box retail construction and renovation, offering hands-on training with industry-standard tools and techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
- Electrical Installations:
- Install wiring, electrical panels, breakers, conduits, switches, and outlets for commercial projects.
- Set up and wire LED lighting systems, including high-bay lights and emergency lighting fixtures for big-box retail spaces.
- Conduit Work:
- Measure, cut, thread, and bend various types of conduit (EMT, PVC, Rigid) using hand benders, hydraulic benders, and conduit threading machines.
- Secure conduit runs on walls, ceilings, and in-floor systems following NEC guidelines.
- Wire Pulling:
- Route and pull wires through conduit and building structures while ensuring compliance with project specifications.
- Label and terminate wires at electrical panels, outlets, and fixtures.
- System Testing:
- Assist in testing circuits and systems using diagnostic tools like multimeters, voltage testers, and clamp meters.
- Verify proper grounding, continuity, and functionality of electrical installations.
- Blueprint Interpretation:
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to accurately complete tasks.
- Collaborate with team members to implement electrical designs as specified in plans.
- Safety Compliance:
- Follow OSHA and company safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toe boots.
- Adhere to fall protection requirements when working on scissor lifts, boom lifts, or elevated surfaces.
- Troubleshooting:
- Identify and assist in resolving electrical issues such as faulty wiring, overloaded circuits, and malfunctioning fixtures.
- Material Handling:
- Transport tools, materials, and equipment to and from job sites.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Tools You’ll Use:
- Hand Tools:
- Screwdrivers, pliers (lineman’s, needle-nose), wire strippers, cable cutters, tape measures, and utility knives.
- Power Tools:
- Drills, impact drivers, rotary hammers, saws (reciprocating, circular), and angle grinders.
- Conduit Tools:
- Hand benders, hydraulic benders, conduit threading machines, reamers, and knockout punches.
- Diagnostic Tools:
- Multimeters, clamp meters, voltage testers, continuity testers, and circuit tracers.
- Fastening Tools:
- Powder-actuated tools (e.g., Ramset), impact wrenches, screw guns, and torque wrenches.
- Ladders and Lifts:
- Step ladders, extension ladders, scissor lifts, and boom lifts.
- Safety Equipment:
- Harnesses, lanyards, gloves, and protective eyewear.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience:
- Prior electrical experience is a plus but not required.
- Certifications:
- Must hold a valid California Electrician Trainee (ET) Card.
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification is a plus.
- Technical Skills:
- Basic understanding of electrical systems and tools.
- Ability to learn and apply National Electrical Code (NEC) standards.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and perform physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, high-demand environments like big-box retail sites.
